I encourage all ham operators to register and train with local ARES groups. I also volunteer with Alabama Baptist Disaster Relief and Salvation Army Team Emergency Radio Network (SATERN).

Digital Modes

I also enjoy working digital modes. Use the link on the left side of the page to get the slide deck for my digital modes presentation in PDF format. Check out the link for my winlink 2000 presentation also on the menu on the left in PowerPoint format. I use FreeDV for digital voice over HF radio. Find the link at: FreeDV. I also use APCO 25 on VHF & UHF with my Yaesu FTM-400DR mobile rig.

Field Day

Field Day (summer) is June 26 and 27, 2021 in Sylvan Springs. We need several more operators. Thanks to those who came out and operated last year. Winter Field Day 2021: WFD Results. We made many contacts working with Shelby County at Peavine Falls. Click the link on the left for more information.

Contesting and Public Service

I also enjoy contesting throughout the year. I like to use FT-8 mostly on 6 meters. I am now working satellites and the Space Station. RTTY, CW, FSQ, SSTV, JT65. I worked with BARC for Summer Field Day 2020. We had our operation in McDonald Chapel. I operated the digital station and the VHF/UHF station. Also check out the DMR console.

Field Day

Field Day (Winter and Summer) are my favorite contesting and operating events during the year. Contact a club group in your local area and sign up for operating a station. Field Day 2020 was a scaled down effort however hams in the Birmingham area are encouraged to attend ARRL Field Day in 2021!

QSL Information

I respond to all QSL requests. I use Logbook of The World, eQSL and paper QSL's with no SASE needed.
